After reading the first few pages I actually almost put this one down… Not because of the writing but because it’s not the genre I usually read. But I kept going and I am so glad I did! I am an avid reader…. Of all the countless books I have read, this is one of my favorites. It is so well written and puts you right there with the characters. I love it when books suck you in and you even catch yourself speaking or thinking like you’re a part of it. When I read anything by Jane Austen I end up catching myself before speaking in some Elizabethan way and with this book I did the same lol! I would catch myself almost saying “aye”!
I actually hated for the story to end. I would totally recommend this book. It’s precious.
Wonderful!

I can’t say how much I loved this book. I rarely give out even 5 stars. The story was rich with passion not just between two people but peoples. My heart soared and broke and Soared some more. The writing was well laid out and the dialogue entertaining. I felt as if I was there. I read every moment I could squeeze out of my day and into the early morning hours-it’s that good!

This was such a fantastic book. It was a really great story and clean. It’s a pattern with my reviews, but I like good clean romance. The characters in this story were very well developed and I couldn’t put this one down.

I read this book because I knew the author and mourn her passing. I was drawn in from the very first page. This was a wonderfully written book! I read it straight through and highly encourage others to read it. God speed my friend….you are deeply loved and missed.

Set in Ireland in 1849 during the potato famine, Rescuing Mr. Gracey is a page-turning historical romance – Alec Gracey is a wealthy Protestant, running for election, and Mary Smyth is a poor Catholic girl who works as a washerwoman, the lowest of social positions. The history and politics of the day are beautifully and seamlessly woven into the love story. It has an engaging plot, entertaining dialogue, and a colorful cast of secondary characters. The descriptions are so evocative, the setting so vivid, that by the end of the story I actually felt homesick for Castlewellan, County Down. Eileen K Barnes truly has a gift for story-telling, and her charm, warmth and wit shine through on every page. A must read!
